NaPoWriMo 7 Gonars, Italy

A clock tower stands
erect in the distance.
I stand between four pillars,
with mosaic art dedicated
to the 500 Yugoslavs who died here
at the concentration camp.

1,000s were interned here
by the Facists
between 1942 and 1943.
All that remains are the ruins
of walls
and the spirit of the innocent
victims of war, here in
the idyllic countryside of Italy.

All this beauty.
